What site would be best for creating a blog?

I'd like to create a blog, just not one with too many advertisements or a huge forum. I'd just like a general page that I won't have to pay for but can hold a blog.

blogspot.com

facebook.com

xanga.com

thegoodblogs.com

myspace.com

UPDATED:

What is "best" depends on how you are going to use the blog and other preferences.

I can tell you what services are popular. Wordpress is at the top of the list for people who run a web site and want to incorporate blogging or who want to do "multi-user blogging". Blogger is at the top of the list for people who would rather have a service control the primary web site functions and provide automated tools/features (i.e. developer hosted blogging). Wordpress can also be used as a developer host.

Investigate the following services. Pick one service, register if necessary, and start writing a blog entry through their web site.

Blogger/Blogspot (http://blogger.com ), Wordpress (http://wordpress.com ), Livejournal (http://livejournal.com ), Vox (http://vox.com ), Yahoo! Shine (http://shine.yahoo.com ), Typepad (http://typepad.com ), Travelpod (http://www.travelpod.com/ )

You may want to check out http://blog-services-review.toptenreviews.com/ , which provides a listing of top blogging services and features.

NOTE: There is a distinction between blogging services and those more for social networking (but have a blogging component). Social-networking services would include Yahoo! 360 (http://360.yahoo.com ), Facebook (http://facebook.com ), Xanga (http://xanga.com ), and MySpace (http://myspace.com ). They have features that extend beyond just blogging and are geared toward connecting with other profiles.
