How do you make your blog more popular?

I have a blog on myspace that almost all of my friends read. They enjoy it and say it's really funny(could be themm being nice though).

I would like to get more readers so I can get other opinions on my writing, as I am an aspiring writer.

Any ideas on how to make my readership grow, without overtly advertising it?

put pics and icons that related to your writing.

thats what gets me to read peoples blogs.

It could just be rumor, but i think that you can pay google to show your blog "Higher" on the list of "writing blogs". so instead of being number 254351324, you could be number 3. im not sure on that though
